SPORTS MEDICINE
What is sports medicine?
Medicine for athletes
Sports medicine is a specialist field of medicine concerned with the health of athletes, the treatment of sports injuries and the optimisation of performance.

Sports medicine as a whole
Sports medicine differs from general orthopaedics in its whole-person approach. It looks not only at the injury but at the whole athlete – from biomechanical analysis and nutrition through to mental state. The aim is both to optimise athletic performance and to prevent injury.
The team at Sportklinik Freiburg has many years of experience in caring for athletes. Where we cannot carry out an examination on site ourselves, we draw on a network of recognised specialists so that together we can give you the best possible treatment.
Four ways into sports medicine
Our sports medicine work falls into four areas. Pick the one that concerns you – each has a page of its own.

Sports medicine care
What we do for athletes – from prevention and the typical risks of individual sports to the question of when you had better come in.

Return to play
Back into sport, but properly. How we treat – and what we go by before clearing you to load the joint again.

Movement analysis laboratory
Measuring instead of guessing: movement analysis, performance diagnostics and the imaging we work with.
