Manual therapy is a specialised form of treatment that uses precise hands-on techniques to mobilise joints, stretch muscles and release blockages. It rests on a sound knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics and is carried out by therapists with specific training.
How does manual therapy work?
Manual therapy comprises various techniques applied specifically to the segment being treated. Particular hand movements can mobilise joints, stretch muscles and release blockages. This treatment is particularly effective with restricted movement and pain.
Every treatment begins with a thorough assessment in order to identify the cause of the symptoms. Based on this, an individual treatment plan is drawn up that is tailored to your particular needs.
The treatment is carried out with the hands and can involve both gentle and more intensive techniques. During the therapy you may experience immediate improvements in movement and relief of pain.
The number of treatments depends on your individual symptoms. Typically 3 to 10 sessions at intervals of 1 to 3 days are recommended. Acute symptoms can improve markedly after just a few sessions.
What we treat
Manual therapy can be used successfully for a range of orthopaedic complaints. Our experienced therapists develop an individual treatment plan for every patient.
Mobilising joints
Specific techniques mobilise restricted joints and improve movement. This treatment is particularly effective with osteoarthritis and after injuries.
Muscle techniques
Tense muscles are stretched and released in order to relieve pain and improve movement. These techniques are particularly effective with back pain.
Releasing blockages
Blocked joints are released with specific hand movements in order to restore normal movement and reduce pain.
Pain management
Manual techniques relieve pain and improve the blood supply. This treatment supports healing and regeneration.
