Sportklinik Freiburg certified as the first official knee centre in South Baden

With effect from 1 July 2022, the Deutsche Kniegesellschaft e.V. (German Knee Society) has certified Sportklinik Freiburg Orthopädie as an official knee centre for the fields of sports orthopaedics, joint replacement and osteotomy. Sportklinik Freiburg is thus the first certified knee centre in South Baden.

One of the requirements for this is that at least one doctor at the institution holds the title of “certified knee surgeon”. Prof Dr med Gerrit Bode, consultant in orthopaedics and trauma surgery with an additional qualification in specialist trauma surgery, has been a certified knee surgeon of the Deutsche Kniegesellschaft e.V. since May 2022.

As a scientifically grounded professional society, the German Knee Society has set out to bring together the many aspects of knee surgery. On the one hand it promotes research and the training and continued education of doctors, therapists and researchers in the field. On the other, the certificate “official knee centre” was established in order to improve quality in knee surgery.

Besides the certification of the responsible doctor as a knee surgeon, recognition as an official knee centre requires a defined minimum number of procedures in each of the individual fields. Sportklinik Freiburg Orthopädie meets all the requirements and looks forward to going on offering knee surgery of a high standard, along with all the other specialist fields it has already established.
